About Us

Hilda and Maynard Van Orden started bringing professional entertainment to Quadra Island in 1974 and by 1986 they were hosting a full season of performers every year. As “the Cultural Committee” under the auspices of the Quadra Island Recreation Society, they realized their dream of presenting accessible, affordable and enjoyable concerts to the island community. Helen Moats collaborated with Hilda for several years after 2002 before fully managing concert production, which she continued to do very successfully until 2014. Diana Gault followed Helen Moats as Director and Joan Varley has been in that role since 2016.

Although much has changed over the years, the organization has always been driven by volunteers. The volunteer work of the programming group, the technical support for sound and lighting, treasurer and grant writer, publicity writer, the hospitality coordinator, billeting hosts, front of house, concession volunteers, and hall set-up and take-down are essential to providing affordable performances. Over the years we have had many, many invaluable volunteers for whom we are incredibly grateful. This is the current, but incomplete, list of Quadra Concert volunteers:
