Malika Tirolien is a fearless vocalist, composer, and bandleader whose music bridges the vibrant rhythms of Guadeloupe, the improvisational spirit of jazz, and the soulful depth of R&B and hip hop. Born on the island of Marie-Galante, Guadeloupe, and raised in a family steeped in art and storytelling, Malika’s creative voice was shaped by a rich cultural heritage and a lifelong connection to music.
After moving to Canada in 2001, she immersed herself in Montreal’s thriving music scene and earned a B.A. in Jazz Interpretation from the University of Montreal. Her extraordinary voice and magnetic artistry quickly gained international attention, leading to a collaboration with Snarky Puppy and a featured appearance on their Grammy-winning album Family Dinner – Volume 1.
Malika’s acclaimed solo career began with Sur La Voie Ensoleillée (2014), the first chapter of her elemental tetralogy exploring EARTH, AIR, FIRE, and WATER. In 2021, she released HIGHER, a bold evolution of her artistry that introduced her own “HighSoul” sound—a genre-defying fusion of jazz, soul, R&B, and hip hop. Co-produced by Snarky Puppy founder Michael League, the album was celebrated for its originality, emotional power, and fearless exploration of identity and connection.
As the lead vocalist of the internationally acclaimed collective Bokanté, Malika has earned multiple Grammy nominations, including for What Heat (2018) with the Metropole Orkest and History (2023), nominated for Best Global Album and Best Engineered Album. Through Bokanté, she explores themes of ancestry, resilience, migration, and unity, often singing in her native Guadeloupean Creole.
A captivating performer and visionary artist, Malika Tirolien has collaborated with musicians including Snarky Puppy, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Vox Sambou, and Elephant Stone, while touring stages across Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
