Quadra Concerts traces its roots back to 1974, when Hilda and Maynard Van Orden began bringing professional entertainment to Quadra Island. By 1986, their efforts had grown into a full concert season each year. Operating as “the Cultural Committee” under the umbrella of the Quadra Island Recreation Society, they realized their dream of presenting accessible, affordable, and high-quality performances for the island community. In 2002, Helen Moats began working alongside Hilda, eventually taking over concert production and leading it with dedication and success until 2014. Diana Gault followed as Director, and since 2016, the role has been held by Joan Varley.

Though the faces have changed over the years, the spirit of Quadra Concerts has remained the same—fueled by passionate volunteers. From the programming committee to the technical team, from the treasurer and grant writer to the hospitality coordinator, billeting hosts, front-of-house crew, concession helpers, and set-up and take-down teams—every role has been essential in keeping performances affordable and vibrant. We are deeply grateful to the many volunteers, past and present, whose generosity, time, and heart have made Quadra Concerts a cultural cornerstone of island life.
